Project Description
QCS served as the IQF (Independent Quality Firm) and supplied three full time inspectors to perform coatings inspection for the Columbus Crossroads project, which at the time, was the second largest transportation project in Ohio. The $200 million I-71/670 project improved safety, reduced congestion, and connected neighborhoods. Twenty-two new bridges were built, including one with a first of its kind cultural wall designed with community input.
Much of the work involved coating inspection during repairs made to the pre-painted steel. We checked preparation and feathering at each repair; monitored the paint mixing operations; observed coverage of each coat and measured the mils after each application to ensure conformance to the ODOT 514 specification. Our staff worked with multiple paint crews documenting activities day and night to deliver an efficient, successful project to the citizens of our capital city.
